Prevention and crisis work in the area of kinship-based gender violence

Empowerment

As part of the project "Empowerment: Prevention and crisis work in the area of kinship-based gender violence", the Orient Express association continues to offer workshops for girls and women's groups on the key topics of forced marriage and kinship violence (an alternative term for violence in the name of "honor").

The workshops can be held in face-to-face format, in compliance with necessary COVID-19 protective measures, and in an online format.

Depending on the setting, the workshops can last 1.5 or 3 hours.

Young women threatened by or affected by forced marriage are usually simultaneously affected by various other forms of violence (sexual violence, physical violence, psychological and structural violence, etc.). The aim of FGM/FGC is to control female sexuality and to preserve the virginity of female family members.

The search for help – especially on the topics of forced marriage, FGM (female genital mutilation) and family violence is not always easy.

Therefore, working directly with the target group is an important step in awareness-raising and educational work.

The prevention work for girls and young women is carried out in a workshop format. All workshops and consultations can be held in German, Turkish and Arabic and take place on the premises of the Orient Express association - if required, they can also be held at external locations.
